'David Harvey has done it again. He has provided us with the most lively, readable, comprehensive, and critical guide to what might be called "the condition of neoliberalism", uncovering its origins, tracing in spread around the globe, and exposing its devastating effects on the vast majority of people everywhere' — Leo Panitch
Neoliberalism — the doctrine that market exchange is an ethic in itself, capable of acting as a guide for all human action — has become dominant in both thought and practice throughout much of the world since the 1970s.
Through critical engagement with this history, David Harvey constructs a framework, not only for analyzing the political and economic dangers that now surround us, but also for addressing the prospects for more socially just alternatives.
David Harvey is Distinguished Professor of Anthropology and Geography at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York (CUNY) and the author of many books including Social Justice and the City, The Condition of Postmodernity, The Limits to Capital, A Brief History of Neoliberalism and The Enigma of Capital and the Crises of Capitalism. He has been teaching Karl Marx’s Capital for over 40 years. His lectures are available for download (free) on his website.
