This course introduces the idea that British policing has its roots in Britain's imperial history. By exploring how policing evolved from its colonial origins, the course enables us to see how capital accumulation, racial hierarchy and repression of dissent are all characteristics of the police and prison systems, operating in varying forms.

Drawing connections between empire, settler colonialism and genocide, these lectures place Palestine at the centre of global political struggle — and ask what the ongoing Nakba (catastrophe) means for how we understand justice, solidarity and liberation in our own time.
